Understanding the Nature of Belief

By Steve and Kristyne McDaniel

There are several common threads throughout every culture, among them are pair bonding, a belief in a power greater than themselves, and music. I believe that we humans are born with a God-shaped hole in their psyche that is hungry for a connection with our creator.

Finding an explanation for this need consumes some of us, while others of us go through like untroubled by a need for divine guidance.

Every culture shares certain basics. We believe in pair bonding, a power greater than ourselves, and music. Beyond that, we tend to go off into different directions. This site is a look into the religious beliefs of many of the world's great religions, and goes from there into many of the world's ancient religions.

Religious Adherents Percentage

The world's principal religions and spiritual traditions may be classified into a small number of major groups or world religions: the vast majority of religious and spiritual adherents follow one of the following:

  • Christianity (33% of world population)
  • Islam (20%)
  • Hinduism (13%)
  • Chinese folk religion (6%)
  • Buddhism (5%).
